Having a worked as an Advertisement Designer and Directory Editor in a daily newspaper "Chernomorie" back in Bulgaria I had good insight how to approach the subject. I researched the region's history and it's cultural heritage, and
people from the community in order to determine a theme for the newspaper logo.
The figure of "Rip Van Winkle" a popular story character written by Washington Irving in 1819 was already in the hearts of the local public. The image of the legendary hero who awakens after twenty years of sleep was a strong enough
image to aid the AWARENESS
The font I chose and modified for the titles is "Miriad Pro". In its bold state this sans-serif is easy to read and appropriate for use on titles and subtitles. Its common use in web and media makes it inviting and familiar to a wide
audience. I complemented
it with a serif and chose as main text type-face "Thimes New Roman" due to its condensed structure. This popular font gives better flow of information volume in the article area. And finally, having an US standard newspaper I
chose the text to flow in a five column layout.
Staff Of fifteen members were responsible for acquiring advertising materials, write articles, finalize sales, and proof reading the articles. My task was to assemble all data in a cohesive visual way, forge the newspaper,
construction process with Editor and staff, apply on the fly changes, create advertisement materials, and prepare the "the Hudson Valley Voice" for print.
